Finally, EntryScape comes in version 3.0 – a major release after a year of development during the pandemic. With this version, EntryScape becomes fully compliant with the Accessibility Directive and DOS compliant with support for WCAG 2.1 AAA support. In addition to this, the interface becomes faster, more responsive and simpler. Another big news is that the much appreciated feature for dataset candidates is now expanded to be called Proposals and includes referencing how proposals were created.
EntryScape version 3.0 is here! This is the beginning of a bigger step for EntryScape.
After a year of pandemic development, we felt we needed to give users and customers who publish open data something new and beautiful to enjoy. Therefore, EntryScape 3.0 comes with a major refresh to the appearance. We at MetaSolutions, who are the main developers of the open source code that makes up EntryScape, have the majority of our customers working with publishing open data. Another ingredient in the development was the upcoming need for EntryScape to comply in design and functionality with the Web Accessibility Act for web pages according to WCAG 2.1 AAA and web guidelines for the public sector. Happily, WCAG 3 is also on the way and we look forward to it for even easier and clearer experiences on web pages on the Internet in the future.
Why are we writing this? As EntryScape has grown in use and MetaSolutions has grown, we have also increased our capacity to publish more information about how EntryScape is developing. So here is an update on the biggest things that have happened.
Added
– New design of the Catalog, Registry, Terms, Workbench and Admin modules. This is mostly about the appearance and design language. The look has been simplified, more harmonized with the user’s needs and process of preparation, description and publication and this can be read more on the EntryScape documentation page on EntryScape Docs.
– Support for always visible external links. Typically these are used for privacy and accessibility statements.
Modifications
– The Candidates feature for preparing datasets in an orderly and secure manner is now called Proposals. The candidates feature was often used to post suggestions for datasets. These suggestions could often come from what was requested by data consumers for example via organizations’ registry or customer service. Therefore, we simply simplified the function and also added the possibility to refer to the source of where the dataset suggestion came from. This makes it easier to prepare and publish the proposal!
– Migration of the user interface to the React framework and the Material UI design language with components. This made the whole EntryScape WCAG compliant. We like this extra much to allow everyone to publish and access open data.
