With an ever increasing volume of research data that are to be made openly available, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) needs tools to make it happen. The JRC has identified EntryScape Catalog from MetaSolutions as a potential candidate to assist in making their data open and will initiate a five month evaluation project.
The JRC is producing considerable amounts of data within a variety of thematic areas, which are of potential reuse by others. The challenge is to enable and ease discoverability and access of these data. For this purpose metadata describing the data is needed and in order to support the creation of metadata specific tools are needed. The JRC will run a five month evaluation of EntryScape Catalog in order to assess its functionality with respect to their needs.
Anders Friis-Christensen, JRC: “For us it is important to select a solution that comply with the latest standards of DCAT-AP and GeoDCAT-AP and that allows us to customise editing. MetaSolutions EntryScape Catalog is a good candidate and it is built based on open source, which is important for us. Together with the MetaSolutions team, who are experts in this area, we will evaluate the EntryScape Catalog with respect to our needs.”
Eric Hjelmestam, MetaSolutions: ”Being selected by the JRC for this evaluation is very special, we get to work with the team that drives the standardization in the Open Data area. EntryScape Catalog is the only solution with full support for standards and that also make it effortless to describe and spread Open Data. We now offer EntryScape Catalog to public institutions to allow them to easily publish their Open Data.”
Apart from the role as being the European Commission’s in-house science service, the JRC shares knowledge with the Member States, the scientific community and international partners (the JRC collaborates with over a thousand organisations worldwide).
The solution will be hosted for the JRC during the evaluation period and will be adapted and integrated to JRC needs during the five month project starting now.
